Jewelry Designer Manager Pro Review

I've had this program for a few months now and here are my thoughts on it:

PROS: It does inventory your items and your jewelry assemblies

CONS:
. When calculating the price of materials, the program assumes everything is bought without taxes. While that may be valid for some people its not for all. So you have to track that separately.

. While you can track "Other" costs, there is no way for you to track those individual "other" costs, only one single single number. For example, you cannot break out details like Etsy Fee, PayPal fee, gift box etc. To me, this essentially makes their Bill of Materials report useless. It forces me into using another method to track those fees.

. The programming is very old. I guess I expect more in 2011. I have a large screen and the program only takes up less than half of it. It doesn't resize based on the screen size. Its just a big Access Database which is probably not the best way of keeping this info. Its very frustrating when I have all this empty screen real estate and the program only gives you 4 fixed lines of comments that you have to use a scroll bar to see

. Some of the programming is really nudgy. For example, you can copy an item. That works fine. But then you have to go searching for that item in the database instead of it opening up right to that item. Still not too bad if your list is only 20 items long but try it when you have 200.

. If you purchase the download like I did, it takes forever to download even with a high-speed connection. The file is about 50MB in size and it took me about 20 minutes to download. Heck I can download movies faster than that.

I could go on with things that are less than wonderful with this program but I won't. Frankly IMHO I don't think you get your money's worth with this. $129 is way overpriced for what it offers (and thats not including what they charge for yearly support.) If all you're looking for is a way to track your inventory of parts and how those parts assemble into your jewelry, well thats ok. But if you want this to be a true way of tracking your real costs, forget it.
