We’ve designed a safe and amazingly soft electric mattress pad that not only warms your bed, but also protects it. The waterproof 233 thread-count 80% poly/20% cotton dobby stripe decorative shell is incredibly soft and soothing. A special TPU Laminate waterproof barrier and Stain Repellent Scotchgard Finish protects against spills and accidents of ALL types, but that's just a couple of the wonderful features of this pad. Constructed within the pad is the patented Safe & Warm low-voltage technology. This low-voltage mattress pad includes a small power supply box that changes 120 volt AC home current into non-hazardous low voltage DC current (very similar to a battery) to provide warmth, protection and safety even if the pad becomes wet. Unlike other warming pads with their thick bulky wires, the heating wires in the Soft Heat pads are so small, they are virtually unnoticeable. During construction we place the ultra thin wires 3-inches apart and evenly distribute them from head to toe. The benefit to you is a pad that gives more of an even heat and has no annoying hot or cold spots. The queen size pad is divided in two separate zones and comes standard with two easy to read, easy to turn, non-slip computerized controllers to adjust the temperature of each side of the bed giving individual comfort and control. UPDATE: March, 2013. About one year after purchase, the pad failed. Most importantly, the manufacturer has ignored both my email attempts to contact them for assistance. I live in Hawaii and it is difficult to call their 800 number during their normal business hours, but I admit I have not tried that option. However, the Sunbeam replacement I had on hand is bulky and the control is difficult for my mother to use, so I purchased a replacement of this (Soft Heat) waterproof pad. Had it only two months and one of the controls has failed. I will see what happens when I continue to try to get some sort of support from the manufacturer and update again.

There are less expensive heated mattress pads available, but this product has several features that make it a super value. The safety of using low-voltage heating wires is a major plus, as is the fact that this pad uses wires that are so thin that they can hardly be felt when trying to find them and completely unnoticeable when slept on. The quick-start function that rapidly brings the pad up to your preset temperature is very handy, as is the automatic shut-off after 10 hours, in case you forget to turn it off manually, or sleep really really late.

I bought it for my 92-year-old mother and while she is not incontinent, the waterproof and stain repellant material is there "just in case." She gets really cold feet and was worried that because this pad doesn't have "zones" like some others, it might not be right for her. Wrong! She's totally comfortable all over with no hot or cold spots.

We also have two dogs who have upon occasion had accidents or upset stomachs on our other beds without waterproof stain resistant material which resulted in permanent mattress stains. Now, of course, I use waterproof mattress covers on the other beds, but this heated pad with those properties built in serves both purposes and serves them well.
