First of all, I had to send the first desk I received back for a replacement. This was mostly painless. It took me awhile to get the desk back into it's original packaging (so that it would fit) and a while longer taping it back together and it IS a hassle having to ship something, even if Amazon paid for it.The first desk had been damaged during shipping. It also had some damage that looked like it was NOT caused by shipping.
The second desk was fine and I put it together in about 2 hours. It went smoothly enough. The directions are adequate, but only barely. They follow the modern trend of "least words possible". Just a few pictures with a couple small arrows. Is hiring a writer (or just asking the designer for a few sentences) really that expensive?
The end product works well, with 2 caveats that might not affect everyone. First of all, it is a little short vertically. I haven't measured but I assume it is the dimensions given when I bought it. Just be aware it might not be high enough for you. I am thinking about adding "raisers" to raise the height a few inches. The other "problem" is that the keyboard tray doesn't come out as far as I thought it would. I use a Microsoft "natural" keyboard and the media keys are under the top of the desk, the function keys are slightly occluded. I can use the keyboard, but with minor difficulty.
The keyboard tray is almost 15" deep, about 14" of that is useable (there is a 3/4" lip on the forward end of the tray that extends upward keeping the keyboard/mouse from sliding forward), about 5" is under the desktop (leaving 9" exposed for the keyboard). A smaller keyboard would probably fit fine.
